doc martens gormy shoe

Today is just a quick post because I start school tomorrow (thursday) after the summer and I kind of need to prepare myself for that. A new school year for me normally means new school shoes so today I will share with you the pair which I have got this year.

They are the doc martens GORMY shoe in black and I love them so so so much :)

I got them at the weekend from Gunwharf Quays outlet shopping centre in Portsmouth and as it is a outlet dr. martens store it meant that the shoes and boots had been reduced in price as they were either from previous seasons, didn't sell or had slight factory faults. My shoes were brand new and had been reduced down from £100 to £50 WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!! That is the same price as ones I would get from clarks which need replacing every year so it is great for doc martens as I know that they will last me for years (especially as my feet have stopped growing now.) They have very strong soles with lots of grip and made from high quality materials.

I also love them because I don't just have to wear them at school, I have worn them ever since I got them. The first couple of days they did rub on my ankles a little bit but that is just because they were brand new and needed to be broken in and I'm glad that I got past the worst bit at home rather than hobbling around at school. I just simply wear them with dresses, skirts or jeans rolled up to my ankle with white socks.

I have them in a size 3 which is a good shoe size to be because it normally means there are quite a few left over as it isn't a very popular shoe size for a 15 year old so I was easily able to find a pair in my size.

In the outlet store they also had black lace up shoes like the dr martens 1461 shoe however I preferred this style with the buckle as it reminds me of the shoes I used to wear at first school and I think they suit me better than the lace up ones. I also love the yellow stitch detailing which is familiar to most doc martens.

(Unfortunately as these were from the outlet store they are no longer available online but the polley shoe is very similar with the buckle.)

I hope that you enjoyed this post and are having a great morning/afternoon/evening/night/whenever you are reading this and check back again on wednesday for a new post :)

how to: make a button bracelet

For my birthday last week I received a kit which contains all the equipment to make a shell button bracelet. The kit is from www.buttoncompany.co.uk which sells fabric, ribbon and obviously buttons. If you don't have the kit, this diy would be very affordable as you can easily get the thread and buttons online or at your local craft store like hobbycraft. Thread and ribbon can be sold by the metre for pence and buttons can be bought in the pick 'n' mix style like sweets cheaply:)

You will need:
~ 0.5m waxed cotton cord
~ 10 small shell buttons
~ 9 smaller shell buttons
~ 1 small coconut button
~ glue or clear nail varnish (not included in the kit but I used the natural collection 'crystal clear' nail varnish)

1. Tie a loop at one end of your cord, and cut the short end close to the knot to make it tidy. (Make sure the coconut button can easily fit through the loop but it isn't too loose.)

2. Thread a big button onto the cord, going up through the back and then down through the front. Push the button to the loop so that it's tight against the knot.

3. Thread a smaller button on in the same and it will fit snugly behind the first big button.

4. Carry on using the opposite size button each time going big, small, big, small etc until you run out of buttons (you should end with a big one.) If you want you can add more buttons so that they will go all along the bracelet, the kit only came with 10 big and 9 small and it's fine with just that. Tie a knot at the back of the last button making sure they are all tightly close together.

5. Check the length of the bracelet against your wrist to see where to attach the clasp button (this is the coconut button).

6. To attach the clasp button, go up through the back, diagonally across, down through the front and repeat in the holes you haven't used. Check that this is still the right length and if not you can easily adjust it. When it's the right length, tie a knot underneath the button. The loop tied at the beginning and this button is the clasp.

7. Neatly trim the ends of the thread to tidy up and dab with a bit of glue or clear nail varnish to secure the knots.

FINISHED :)

I hope that you enjoyed this tutorial and found it easy to follow:) I really like the bracelet especially with the shell buttons as they shine in the sunlight but it's still small on your wrist with no in-your-face bright colours. I quite like the plain buttons being all the same but maybe you could try will selection of coloured buttons in a pattern. The only fault that I can find with the kit is that there could maybe be more buttons so that they go all along the bracelet?

keeping it simple

Recently, my skin has not been in great condition, I don't know whether it is due to me going swimming in the sea and chlorine treated swimming pools lots recently or some other reason but I have therefore decided to try and keep my skincare routine as simple as possible (literally). Obviously I don't always use simple products as there are so many other brands but I know I can always trust them if I have a bad experience with something else.

KEEPING IT SIMPLE

Simple products were some of the first skincare items which I bought, they are very affordable and do the job of taking care of your skin just right with no fuss. Every product, whether that's a cleanser, toner or moisturiser, contain no harmful chemicals and are suitable for even sensitive skin. Over the past few years I have tried, tested and accumulated quite a collection of simple products, some I love and re-purchase again and again and some I found weren't so great. As I am trying to keep my skincare routine as simple as possible, I haven't been using every single product in the photo above every morning and evening as that would be silly but I do have some favourites which stick out.

Each product is focused on moisturising, soothing, refreshing, revitalising and protecting your skin; what more could you need.

CLEANSERS

REFRESHING FACIAL WASH GEL {50ml - £1.32}
This face wash does exactly what it says on the tin {tube}, my face feels gently cleansed and refreshed by removing all dirt and make up accumulated during the day and night. It is so easy to use, just lather the gel up in your hands, massage in wet skin and rinse with water. However, even if I use a moisturiser afterwards, I have found that this product dries my skin out quite a lot and strips away any natural oils from my face.

MOISTURISING FACIAL WASH {50ml - £1.28}
This works exactly the same as the gel and feels just as refreshing and has the added extra of also moisturising as well. The product foams up much more in your hands which isn't always an indicator as to whether it is cleaning more but it feels much nicer to apply and my skin feels so soft afterwards. Even though it is moisturising, it doesn't make my skin feel oily afterwards and I always follow with a normal moisturiser afterwards anyway. I have recently been using this every morning and evening and it is definitely gentle enough for this.

OIL BALANCING CLEANSING WIPES {25 wipes - £3.20}
As I have quite oily skin, I have found that halfway through the day my skin is becoming to build up a lot of oil again however I don't want to do a full cleanse as washing your face too much can actually be bad for your skin. So I just pop these wipes in my bag and they're great as they balance the oils, leaving the good ones and make my skin feel refreshed again.

MOISTURISERS

I don't like using regular sun creams (the same ones you would use on your body) on my face as I find they are way too heavy and oily and don't feel very nice. I like this moisturiser as it is still very light but I know that my face is being protected. Even if it's not clear sunshine outside, I will always put this on just to reassure myself that my face isn't getting damaged.

HYDRATING LIGHT MOISTURISER {50ml - £1.25}
There is not much to say about this moisturiser, it is just great. Again, it is very light on my skin and doesn't feel heavy or oily but still moisturising, making my skin very soft. I use this in the evening before bed as obviously I don't need SPF protection at night.

MAKE UP REMOVER / TONER / EYE GEL

EYE MAKE UP REMOVER {125ml - £3.25}
I don't like using the facial washes to remove eye make up as even though I am sure it is gentle enough, I cannot cope with getting something in my eyes as they are so sensitive, I don't even like getting water in my eyes when I go swimming. However, this make up remover I can cope with, it is so gentle and I just need a few squirts onto a cotton pad and it removed everything.

SOOTHING FACIAL TONER {50ml - £1.32}
I always used to miss out the step of using toner, but everybody seems to rave on about them and say that you MUST use them. I decided to pick the simple one up as it was afordable but to be honest I don't see any difference that it makes to my skin. I don't know whether it is a long term product which will take a while to show the results but I still never skip it as I'm worried that if I do my skin will go even worse...I don't know. I'll carry on on my mission of finding a toner which I find makes a diffeerence clarifying my skin.

REVITALISING EYE ROLL ON {15ml - £5.49}
I only just recently picked this up and how I wish I had bought it sooner. I have very bad dark circles under my eyes due to genetics or lack of sleep but even if I've only had a few hours sleep, it is so refreshing under my eyes and attempts to wake me up just a little bit. It is also great halfway through the day just to keep my eyes open and keep me going. Due to using this product everyday and the extra sleep I've been getting in the holidays, my dark under eye circles are definitely lighter:)

I hope that you enjoyed this post and are having a great morning/afternoon/evening/night/whenever you are reading this and check back again on wednesday for a new post :)

current favourite songs #1

Today I have decided to do something a little different by talking about my current favourite songs which I have been listening to. I cannot go a day without playing music from a variety of different artists and these have been a few which I have especially enjoyed lately. Some old favourites and new releases from a variety of artists.

1. Sing by Ed Sheeran
This is Ed's newest single from his new album 'x' / 'multiply' which is due out on the 23rd June this year.  I am very excited for the new album and new material from Ed as I know that it will absolutely incredibly because he is such a talented guy. I have rrecently heard and watched videos of Ed at places like Radio 1s Big Weekend and of live performances and it's so overwhelming just how talented he is. Being able to control thousands of people in a crowd on his own with just a guitar and loop pendal is pretty impressive. No dancers, no band, no backing track, just him.

2. Magic by Coldplay
Coldplay have just released their sixth studio album, Ghost Stories and Magic is one of the singles from it. The whole album is wonderful and I've found that this has quite a different sound compared to previous albums as I think it is much more laid back instead of as rocky. I quite like this and especially Magic because I find it so relaxing but still a great song to turn on full blast and calm down to. Sometimes I play this to try and get to sleep and it really does help. I am really liking their new style which is also something that I wouldn't normally go for.

3. The Hardest Part by Nina Nesbitt
Nina Nesbitt is a singer-songwriter artist from Scotland and is possibly one of my favourite female singer-songwriters form the UK. I am a big fan of her acoustic guitars throughout her album named 'Peroxide' and incredible vocals especially in 'The Hardest Part' as her voice and musical talent is genuine and hasn't been messed around with overpowering backing tracks.

4. Let Me In by Grouplove
This song is part of 'The Fault in our Stars' soundtrack so it will feature in the film. {I am so excited for the film it comes out this month and I CAN'T WAIT !!} The music video which you can watch here is a mixture of small clips from the movie and also a live performance from Grouplove. I had never heard of the band before but I decided to listen to some of their other work and it's pretty incredible, I love it. Grouplove is an American rock band with good drum beats and sufficient use of electric/bass guitars and keyboards which I enjoy. Hannah and Christian {Christian's current faded blueish hair is absolutely wonderful} are the two main singers who's voices both complement each other and there is an effective contrast of the male and female voices.

5. Back to December / Apologise / You're Not Sorry by Taylor Swift
Back to December has been an old favourite of mine for years now ever since Taylor released her 3rd album 'Speak Now' in 2010. I recently downloaded the 'Speak Now: Live World Tour' cd which has 16 live tracks from the concerts. I always love live music and especially this because you can here the crowd singing along in the background. This specific track is a mash up of Back to December, Apologise and You're Not Sorry and Taylor sounds beautiful (as always). I love this track so much and the whole album especially 'Sparks Fly' and 'Mean' because these two were sung at the 'Red Tour' and so it remind me of that which makes me feel happy and sad.

I hope that you have enjoyed this post on a few songs I have especially been enjoying recently. They're mostly acoustic or live songs which I really love compared to original studio versions.
I hope that you have a great morning/afternoon/evening/night/whenever you are reading this and check back again on Wednesdays for a new post and Sundays for something crafty:)

spring harvest 2014

During my Easter holidays, I went to an event called spring harvest with lots of friends and it was incredible.
{That is it summed up very briefly but if I were to explain everything and all of the feelings I had then I wouldn't really know how too...there was to much}
The 5 days at spring harvest helps people to connect with god and experience wonderful stories and understanding of the power of the Son, the Father and the Holy Spirit.
So I am just going to try and summarize everything using a load of pictures from the week and a few things which I did:)

This is a photo of everyone before we set off on our car journey to Butlins in Mindhead, Somerset. Some people I had never met before and some people I have known for ages and I loved being with everyone.

{look at me in the middle not even looking at the camera....}
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Katt has a pretty amazing long board so I tried having a go on it and although I'm a bit wobbly still, I can actually ride it and I didn't even stubble off that many times:) I got so excited when I managed to fully go round a roundabout on it and I've found something that I may be pretty good at if I practise which does mean I now want to buy one:)

{wow check me out...}
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Whilst we were there we were free to use all of the facilities at butlins which included a swimming pool with slides and also the funfair:) The swing ride was so much fun as you can tell from all our excited facial expressions:)

{Josh // Simon // Katt & Josh // Kira & Me}
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
mindhead is right on the north coast of somerset and is really close to the beach so on one of the days everyone took the opportunity even if it wasn't the warmest to have a trip there.

{this is one of my favourite photos ever from the whole weekend. even after many attempts of trying to jump at the exact same time whist taking a photo...i love it. it is just such a happy photo:) }
{kira & me}
{i also really love this photo, again, it's just so happy. i was trying to look warm even though i was freezing because shorts really wasn't a very good idea}
{kira, holly & me & ali popping up at the top:) }
{look at how angelic and beautiful kira looks posing on the rocks and then me just stood awkwardly not really knowing what to do....}
{mostly everyone decided to have a race to the sea and back. I was of course last because I am such an incredibly slow runner and joe (my brother) seemed to take his shirt of half way through and run straight into the see...how can he even do that...it must have been FREEZING}
{many attempts to make a human pyramid...I was on top because I'm the smallest but it kept falling down):}
{PERMERD simon especially liked saying pyramid in the 'er mer gerd' meme voice}
{so then we had a race with the boys and girls and the girls won oh yess:)
{what...standing up on top...what's going on here.. // I don't really know what I'm doing in the last photo probably about to fall of or something..}
{then I decided to sit on joe's shoulders and ollie was on ryan's...I don't really know what we were attempting to do but at one point ollie did have me in an arm lock and multiple times I was nearly pushed off}
{me and holly whilst we were about to jump on katt's bed and wake her up in the morning with music {we're such kind and thoughtful people} // me and kira in happy moods on the beach // me and holly on the beach}
i realise that i don't look great but these photos are funny and remind me of moments:)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
About to go and play crazy golf....cray cray. I was very proud of myself because I managed to get hole in one which I was very happy about:)

{look at ollie posing in the right corner....:)) }
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes it was so much fun going on rides at the funfair and going down the slides at the pool with my youth group but the main focus for spring harvest is to bring people together to meet with God. Each morning and evening there was a meeting full of worship, signing, bible studies and prayer. Everyone didn't just have to go to one place though, you could choose what style suited you the best.
On the first evening I went to the BIG TOP which is absolutely huge. When everyone sang it was incredible because you could hear everyone and it was like being at a concert signing along to the band which at the BIG TOP was worship central which is an amazing worship band:) I loved how there was so many people and the bible message was also really strong.
The next morning and evening I went to I-SCAPE which although there was less people there, I found it more relaxing as everyone was laid back and sat on the floor so I found it easier to connect and I felt closer to God. Each day the talks and bible messages were very influential an I learnt a lot about myself, confidence and loving God. {In the future I may do a couple of posts on some of the things which I learnt.}
I loved being given the freedom and choice of where we wanted to go and we weren't forced to go to a specific place which I liked because I felt much more comfortable in I-SCAPE.

{at the BIG TOP. the bright lights and loud music was so overwhelmingly great.}
{this was at I-SCAPE (ISCAPEEEEEE) which I found more relaxed and laid back and so I felt that what I got out of the meetings was more powerful. at the last evening and morning worships, i found it the most incredible, i was really touched by love and felt an overwhelming rush of happiness amongst everyone whilst we all jumped around and sang.}
{during the evening, we would sometimes go into off on our own or in groups and reflect on the message. one of the activities was to paint on here with 'i am hopeful'. this was if we felt hopeful for ourselves, and life in general. mine is the one in green at the bottom with the heart <3}
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Each year there is normally an app or a game which one person gets and then everyone downloads and plays it. This year it was the game '2048' and here seems to be a photo of 7 of us playing it at the same time with nobody talking and obviously being very sociable.

{it is a good game which you should download but I still haven't completed it which is annoying me greatly}
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everyone must have heard of secret-santa before where you get given someone's name and you go and buy them a present and secretly give it to them. We did something like however as it was no where near chirstmas we decided to call it secret-Jesus instead:)  It was so much fun as I loved trying to find a special present for my person and I think they really liked it;)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This was right at the end of the 5 days, when everyone was about to leave to go home. After spring harvest everyone was in such great moods and it was so lovely to spend it with such beautiful and amazing friends. During the 5 days there were emotional, funny and happy moments which made it very memorable:)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are couple of people from my youth group who wanted me to write something about them.....

SIMON - Simon is Irish and everybody loves his accent and also the way that he says 'ER MER GERD' at everything:) He loves KFC (especially the gravy) and is also a fan of country music singers such as Kacey Musgraves who I also like which makes me like him more:) If you secretly take a photo of Simon (or just any photo), he is probably pulling a beautiful photogenic face which can often be extremely amusing.

RYAN - Ryan is very tall which has meant I have often walked/bumped into him accidentally which probably hurts me more as I bump my head into his elbow or arm but I still decide to say sorry.... For his secret-Jesus gift he received a puppet which is named Pedro (I think) and I think Pedro is one of the most hilarious person I have ever met:)

HOLLY - Holly has amazing dancing skills, is  funny, and is also a big fan along with me of the 'knock knock, who's there, you, you who, yoo hoo big summer blow out' joke:) She and Ryan often call me MegMeg together which from anyone else I would absolutely hate but I just think it's funny and cute from them:)

KIRA - Kira is funny and a great person to talk to about anything. She loves hedgehogs and her hashtags on twitter never fail to amuse me:) Whilst at spring harvest, she bough an elephant called Jerico who is one of the cutest people I have ever met. She likes listening to Nina Nesbitt who I also love:) Kira was also part of the ISCAPAAYYYY team who was the people who went to i-scape each evening:)

JENNY - Jenny is still taller than me but to be honest she is still quite short which is nice for me as then I'm not the only one who is known as 'the short one'. Whilst walking around she likes shouting out 'DUCK' which means everyone has to lie down on the floor right where we are which often confuses people around us but I just find it funny. Jenny was another of the ISCAPAAYYYY team:)

KATT - Katt has amazing blue hair (as you can see in photos above) and is a great person to be around whether that's driving together in a bumper car at the fairground, riding on her longboard or just staying up until 3am having deep, meaningful chats and playing cards. Katt was another of the ISCAPAAYYYY team so we have loads of memories from that:)

{i would say something about more of you guys but this post is already incredibly long...love you guys so much though}

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
{wow this is so mega long sorry}
So yes, this was my trip to spring harvest:) In the future I may do more detailed posts on experiences and things which I learnt:)

I hope that you have a great morning/afternoon/evening/night/whenever you are reading this and check back again on wednesdays for a new post and sundays for something crafty:)
